Something I have learned A LOT about over the last couple of years and that I have recently MAJORLY incorporated into my life is volunteering. So many people want to be involved in our community but are not quite sure where to start. I’m here to help you! I have a few different opportunities for you to get involved with this summer that I am excited to tell you about! And if my projects do not interest you, but you still want to get involved, I can most definitely point you in the right direction!
The first opportunity I invite you to get involved in is the Great American Clean-up and Planting Day with Keeping Vermilion County Beautiful on May 6th. Show up at the Danville Public Library at 9am with your gardening tools and get ready to see Downtown Danville transform as we plant beautiful flowers and plants that citizens can enjoy all summer long. It is a GREAT opportunity to literally get your hands into the heart of Danville. Last year, my daughters and I planted flowers in the planters right in front of Temple Plaza, and then for the rest of the summer we kept returning to visit “our flowers.” They felt like they really contributed to the community (which they did!) and it gave them a lot of pride. Bring your family down and get involved!
The next opportunity I have for you is an awesome passion project I have going on with Arts in the Park. Arts in the Park is a free art festival held at Lincoln Park on June 24-25. I am creating a brand new interactive children’s area called “Kids Inspiring Kids.” This is an area for creative kids to feel comfortable with themselves and be around other kids like them. They can explore art work done by their peers, create new masterpieces, and experience the Vermilion County art community in a big way. I am looking for kids under the age of 18 to play a huge role in this. I need kids to perform, take and display their photos, display their artwork, and volunteer to to inspire other kids. I am excited to work with the next generation of artists who will keep creativity alive in our community. If you or your child(ren) are interested – PLEASE shoot me a Facebook message or an email.
The final opportunity I would like to share with you today is CULTURE SHOCK! Culture Shock is a free 3-day music festival that happens in Downtown Danville. This year I am serving as the Volunteer Coordinator. That means I need all hands on deck! Who wants to be a part of the biggest thing happening in Vermilion County? I need people to set up, tear down, greet people, give directions, help take care of the grounds, help with hospitality, children’s area….the list goes on and on! Again – PLEASE message me on Facebook or shoot me an email. I need lots of people for this, and it is promised to be a GREAT time. The dates for the festival this year are September 22-24.
This is just the tip of the iceberg on volunteer opportunities. If none of these excite you, but you want to get involved – contact me and I will put you in touch with the right people. Change begins with us, friends. So get out there, get involved, and watch Danville transform into the best place in Central Illinois.
