One of my favorite things about Vermilion County is that there is talent EVERYWHERE. There are so many opportunities for artists of many kinds to release their talents out into our community. From theatre to poetry to painting to performing, surely there is a creative outlet here for you…and if there’s not, there are a LOT of people who will support you in starting one.Continue Reading
One of my favorite parts of Danville is the downtown area. It is actually the specific place that changed my entire attitude about Danville and made me open my eyes to what is really happening here. It was last summer when I really saw the change. The Summer Sounds concerts began to grow bigger and better…Culture Shock brought in a whole new world right in our back yard…new businesses began to pop up that were working hard to make a difference in the downtown area.
As I sat down to plan out this series, I knew I had to designate a day to let everyone else see what I saw and continue to see about our amazing Downtown Danville. I believe this is the epicenter of change for our community.Continue Reading
Through my part-time job with Neuhoff Media, I have been spending a lot more time with a side of the City of Danville that I have never really gotten to know. I have learned so many things about this great city in the short five months that I have had this job, and I decided it was important that you know these things as well! I can’t wait to share some of the things I have learned with you! So I am kicking the week off with a new app that recently launched that makes key communication SUPER EASY: Our Danville.Continue Reading
Today marks the 10th year since the Williams family lost their “sunshine,” Reagan Emery Williams. Reagan was a victim of shaking baby syndrome, and the family has come together to start an organization in her name that exists to spread awareness and intervene in the lives of families and children at risk.
“The older I get, the more often I find that frozen yogurt fixes most things.” ~ Whitney Myer
I couldn’t agree more with Whitney…and luckily we have a fantastic local business right in our back yard to achieve happy status! Brett Andrews owns and operates Frozie’s Fat Calf Frozen Yogurt right here in Danville.
“Fresh is best!” is the motto at Cafe 13 where owners Carla Cahill and Jason Allen are prepared to present you the freshest food around paired with amazing beverages served up alongside an amazing environment full of local nostalgia and talent. The couple opened up the cafe last July and have brought a unique flair to the downtown Danville area. They bring a made-from-scratch fresh menu that is simple, clean, and affordable for everyone. The summer of 2015 was a summer of change…not only in my life, but in my city. The sound of community, hope, and promising opportunity rang throughout Downtown Danville through events like Summer Sounds and Culture Shock. Home base (for myself, many of the bands, volunteers, and patrons who attend events like these) is a little place tucked into the alley – Fatman’s Warehouse. Fatman’s serves as a favorite spot for music, fun, great people, and is owned and ran by Vermilion County native – Heather Pierce.Continue Reading
With every interview I do, I find a piece of myself within the interviewee. This particular interview hit me in a very personal space. Addiction is a very serious problem that is a growing epidemic in Vermilion County. As much as I like to bring the light-hearted, positive stuff to my blog – this is an issue that I feel needs to be addressed.Continue Reading
The lights, the ice, the competitiveness, the excitement! Hockey has always been a thing in Danville. Some of my favorite childhood memories are from attending the Danville Wings games with my step-dad and cousin sitting at the end of the ice doing the YMCA. Now we have the Danville Dashers who not only bring us amazing hockey, but who care deeply about our community. They are led by Coach Steve Harrison.Continue Reading
