Sleepy Creek Concert Series Presents: Woody Pines
January 14, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
No stranger to fans of the new folk music coming from all corners of the USA. Alongside artists like Old Crow Medicine Show and Pokey LaFarge, Woody Pines continues to forage thru the secret world of old 78ʹs and to write new chapters in the Anthology of American Music. Integrating sounds from Leadbelly to Bob Dylan, from Woodie Guthrie to Preservation Hall, Woody Pines belts out songs of fast cars, pretty women and hard luck with a distinctive vintage twang.
The distinctive viper sound is brought together with Skip Frontz Jr. on the upright bass, adding both the booty shakin’, low-end and rapid fire percussion with his sought after slap technique that has blown people away night after night. Brad Tucker on the vintage electric guitar and vocal harmonies fills out the trio, working his magic to make the band sound bigger then they are. Woody plays the National Guitar, Harmonica and Floor Tom, Singing in a voice sounding uncannily like a young Willie Nelson.
“Woody Pines is the best band I ever heard in my life I swear…. I’m their biggest fan now!”
– honky tonk hero, Billy Joe Shaver
“Rock solid sexy old time vaudeville hill-billy groove.”
– Sxip Shirey of the Luminescent Orchestrii, NYC
Music at Sleepy Creek is always a treat. The show takes place inside our tasting room, so weather is never a problem. Guests may bring in outside food any time; cheese, crackers, sausage, & other satly snacks are always available for purchase. Wine can be purchased by the bottle or glass. Craft beers, soft drinks, coffee, and other non-alcoholic drinks are available for purchase.
GROUP SPECIAL Purchase 6 or more seats and save a few bucks per person, plus we reserve a table for you. But, if you arrive 15 minutes or fewer before showtime, your fancy reserved table may be forfeited.
Seating is first come/first served (except group special above) and begins one hour before the performance. Sleepy Creek is a small, intimate venue, so please be courtious by turning off cell phones and keeping conversation low during performance. Don’t worry, there is plenty of time between acts to refill your glass and catchup with your neighbors.
Frequently Asked Questions about Music at Sleepy Creek
Is the performance inside or outside? All shows take place in our tasting room, which is fairly small yet intimately comfortable. Please refrain from conversation during the performance, and keep noise and activity to a minimum to allow performers to do their best work, and so other listeners can fully enjoy the show.
Is there a dance floor? Nope. We are generally considered a listening room where people remain seated and focused on the performers. If you feel the need to get on your feet, please head to the back of the room so you can enjoy your happy feet whilst keeping other guests’ views unobstructed.
Can I bring my own alcohol or food? Only the alcohol purchased here is allowed at Sleepy Creek, but you can bring your own food any time. Wine can be purchased by the bottle or glass. Beer, wine slushy, sangria, soft drinks, coffee, tea and water are available for purchase throughout the performance. We also sell cheese and crackers, summer sausage and occassionally other treats.
Do I need to make reservations? Many of our shows sell out in advance. We recommend reservations. However, if the show is not sold out, you can purchase seats right before the performance.
What is the refund/cancellation policy? Tickets are generally non-refundable. However, because our shows often sell out, let us know if you are unable to attend and we will try to resell your ticket and refund your money if we have a waiting list. However, refunds are not guaranteed even when a show is sold out. Your paid seat is transferrable to another attendee for the same show; seats are non-transferable for future shows.
Are children allowed? Although we are in the business of giving people experiences surrounding wine, well-behaved folks under 21 years old who are accompanied by an adult over 21 are allowed. However, some content may not be appropriate for underaged humans. Please watch/listen to our performers online before the show to determine if the performance is appropriate for your guest.
When should I arrive? You’ll want to arrive at least 15 minutes before show time (but seating starts an hour before) so you can grab a drink and get settled. Wine tastings will stop 30 minutes before show time. Note: Seating for fewer than six people is generally first come/first served and begins one hour before the performance. Groups of six or more paid with one transaction will have reserved seating but will forfeit reserved seating if arrival is fewer than 15 minutes before showtime.
When does the tasting room close? Last call, although usually not announced, will be during the last song. Serving for consumption on site will stop during this time. However, feel free to make purchases to take home.
Remember, please drink responsibly!
