Something you should check out this weekend or next is Red Mask’s Deathtrap at the Kathryn Randolph Theatre opening tomorrow night (April 1, 2016). Director Drake Taylor explains the show:
“Deathtrap is a thriller in 2 acts. It is a play set within a play. Sidney Bruhl, played by Mark Learnard, is a ‘has been’ play write whose best years were about a decade ago. He’s been given a guaranteed new hit play to read by up and coming play write Clifford Anderson, played by Ross Hileary. He is green with envy at the potential of this script he’s been given titled Deathtrap. He proposes to his wife Myra, played by new comer Theresa Tyner, that’s he’s willing to do almost anything to pass the script off as his own. Even murder.
So to Myra’s chagrin, Sidney invites Clifford to his home in Westport, CT to help the young play write work on his play, Deathtrap, and to give him pointers to make it better. Is Sidney really going to murder for another shot at success? And this is only the first scene! There are so many plots twists and turns, the audience isn’t going to see a lot of it coming. It’s an amazing script teamed with a group of amazing performers!
To top off the cast of 5, is the psychic staying next door, Helga Tin Dorp portrayed by new comer Melanie Clark. And there’s also a nosey family lawyer played by Jim Rogers. They add a fun and interesting dynamic to all the murder going on…
The play is a comedy/thriller. It’s the longest running thriller in Broadway history, and was nominated for a Tony Award. The play is set in 1978, which was a lot of fun to give the stage a retro feel. I also doubled as the set designer and had a blast putting together an amazing set.”
The show starts at 8 pm April 1, 2, 8, 9 and 2 pm April 3 & 10. Drake adds, “The play does have some adult content, adult language and adult themes. But it should definitely be a night no one will soon forget. Tickets can be purchased at through Red Mask Players, 442-5858. The cast and crew have worked VERY hard to make this show the best it can be!”
